Placencia Lagoon is a saltwater lagoon that lies between the Placencia peninsula and the mainland. This large lagoon teems with plankton, making it a rich feeding ground which supports a wide variety of fish, birds and mammals. The most famous of these animals, is the West Indian Manatee. They love to feed on the huge weed beds in the lower part of the lagoon and drink freshwater from the streams that feed the lagoon. You have a good chance of spotting one of these large, endearing creatures.Dolphins at play are a regular site and you may even get a rare glimpse of the endangered Morelet’s crocodile. Birdlife is abundant, pelicans, gulls, boobies and frigates being common sights, perfect for bird watching.

Full Day Kayaking
Kayak around the Placencia Peninsula.
Paddle south down the Placencia peninsula, enjoying the beauty of the Caribbean seas and admiring picturesque Placencia. Upon reaching the village of Placencia, roam pretty little Caribbean village, with its quaint shops and bars. Lunch will be at a beachfront restaurant where you can enjoy some local dishes.
Then it’s back to the kayaks, with a paddle through the backwaters of Placencia Village, up the lagoon side of the peninsula, where your guide, an expert on mangrove ecology.

Monkey River Over-night Kayaking
Kayak down the beautiful Monkey River in remote Toledo province, camping at night by the river, and experience the fascinating wildlife of the river and jungle.
From the Bladen Branch of Monkey River, kayak leisurely down stream. Pause for a lunch on the river bank before stopping to camp before night fall. A delicious dinner will be prepared by your guide and eaten by the campfire with the sounds of the jungle all around.
After a good night’s sleep, breakfast, then back to the river where we carry on our journey down the lower reaches of Monkey River to Monkey River Village, a traditional Creole settlement which makes its living mainly from fishing. Here we will have a delicious traditional Belizean lunch prepared by local ladies, and after lunch we will return by road to Placencia.
