Over
a hundred species of wildlife, all indigenous to Belize, have found a
perfect home at the Belize Zoo, established by a US immigrant over twenty
years ago, in the Belize District. Most of the creatures, in fact, were
brought to the zoo, having been found damaged either by man or in some
accident, and nursed back to good health. From magnificent jaguars to
jaguarondi, margay to puma, or ocelot, otters, parrots, a hawk-eagle,
tapirs, white-lipped peccary, havelinas, or gibnuts; from crocodile to
Jabirus storks, the zoo make your visit worthwhile. Cameras are welcome.
There is an excellent gift shop on the site.
